About WiseRay

Our approach and how we work.

Our approach

Complex requirements only become useful when they lead to clear decisions and workable processes. We present medical physics expertise in a way that helps managers, physicians and specialist team members act with confidence: scientifically sound, economically sensible and grounded in clinical practice. WiseRay aims to ease the burden on those responsible, make risks visible early and provide a reliable specialist point of contact.

How we work

WiseRay is founder-led. You work directly with the professionally responsible person, with clear responsibilities, direct communication and recommendations that can be implemented in everyday clinical practice. Our focus is on independent specialist assessment, traceable documentation and implementation that reduces the operational burden.

Founder profile

Tobias Pahlen: Medical physics with clinical leadership experience.

I am Tobias Sebastian Pahlen, a medical physicist with SGSMP recognition, radiation protection expert and FOPH-recognised clinical auditor for radiation protection. Today, as lead medical physicist, I hold medical physics responsibility in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Zurich. Previously, I was responsible for radiation protection and diagnostic medical physics at the two largest hospitals in the Hirslanden group. This work has shaped my understanding of how medical requirements, technology and organisation interact in a hospital.

My experience spans radiology, cardiology and the operating theatre through to nuclear medicine and therapy. In quality management and clinical audits, I combine this expertise with a focus on how requirements can be implemented meaningfully in practice. With WiseRay, this experience is directly available to you, supporting informed decisions and workable solutions in your institution.

Teaching and presentations

For me, communicating knowledge clearly is part of medical physics. At University Hospital Zurich and previously at Hirslanden, I have trained physicians and staff in radiation protection. I teach radiation protection courses, speak at national and international congresses, including the Swiss Congress of Radiology, and contribute to SGSMP working groups. This experience directly informs the WiseRay Academy. Radiation protection courses at the Swiss Congress of Gynaecology.

Education and international experience

I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in medical physics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, gaining practical laboratory experience in medical imaging and spectroscopy. Research stays took me to the United Arab Emirates University in Abu Dhabi for 15 months and to the COMSATS Institute in Islamabad for six months, where I studied natural radioactivity in granite. I speak German, English and French. Research stays abroad shape my approach to work: collaborating with specialists from different backgrounds and cultures comes naturally to me. This benefits teaching in Swiss hospitals, whose teams are international.
